Beer and Women: They Know Why

What if the history of beer had forgotten the women who brewed it?

Beer has been a part of human life for millennia. Yet the best-known stories often leave the women who brewed, passed on, sold and evolved it in the shadows. From antiquity to medieval brewsters, and through the changes that gradually redefined roles in the world of brewing, this talk puts women back at the heart of the story. Guided by a Cicerone® certified zythologist, participants journey through the ages and taste five beer samples as the story unfolds. Each beer becomes a gateway to a story, a practice, or a preconception to be challenged.

Behind every glass, a story where women finally take back their rightful place.

Tasting history and deconstructing preconceptions.

Throughout the talk, participants discover a brewing history that is less linear and more surprising than they might have imagined. Ancient figures, brewing practices, social changes and contemporary representations make for an accessible narrative, paced by the tasting of five beer samples.

The beer is not just for illustration. Each tasting extends the narrative through the senses, connecting the stories told to the diversity of styles, skills and practices that make up brewing culture.

The talk also leaves room for reactions and discussion. Some preconceptions die hard, others are quickly dispelled: the discoveries naturally fuel the conversation.
